visualize your quilts without cutting your fabric

I'm pleased to present my first tutorial! Rather than a hands on sewing tutorial, I decided to stick with something I know. I've created a tutorial which will help you visualize your quilt tops with MS Word without cutting your fabric! It's full of pictures and tips except for the first page where I babble on!

Download the 1.5Mb PDF document now!

I'd love to hear what tools you use when you sit down to create!! Feel free to share ideas or suggestions in the comments!

[and don't forget to visit later this week when I have my post #50 giveaway!]

Though I have yet to start my first quilt, I find your tutorial really useful. Great job!

My blogless friend shared your blog with me today and I am so impressed. This looks like it will be very helpful. I am not a great quilter either and it takes me forever to finish one. Thank you for putting this tutorial together.

Thanks for the wonderful tutorial! I usually use Excel to plan quilts, but it looks like Word has quite a few more options. Now I'm even happier that I splurged to update from Office 2003 to 2007. Can't wait to try this! :)

Awesome! Even though I have already cut and started sewing my octagons I can use this to try and determine a few placement related issues.

This totally blows my mind. More so because the MS Word interface annoys me like no other, so I have the utmost respect for what you have done with it. I do something similar in InDesign where I can cheat and do quilt layouts to size to essentially check my math. Always have to remember to shrink the thing before printing...

Great tutorial. I had this same idea but tuckered out before I got a design made. I wasn't sure it would give me a good enough representation to help me with designing. Your tutorial proved me wrong. I think I'll try it.

Thanks!!

This is wonderful. Thank you. I'm going to be starting my first quilt. I know the design, I just haven't picked the fabric yet. This is so helpful.
