a week of picnic - grandmas photo album

Unidentified people at a picnic in my Grandma's photo album - 1942.

I'm fairly certain I recognize my grandmother and my great grandmother in the photos. I'm hoping my aunts and uncles can help me out.

If you want to join in the picnic fun, run over to Mikes and let the Claire and Meaghan know you're joining in!

  1. Hi Amy...this is Alissa (Marsha's daughter). I just thought I'd help you out a little bit---my grandma (Helen) and grandpa (Medill) are in that last picture. Grandma is towards the back of the picture with her head in front of a tree trunk. My grandpa is to the right of her (to her left), about 2 or 3 people over and is facing the camera. He's next to the guy standing up. I'm sorry to say I don't recognize anyone else.

I've been reading your blog for a little while now. I have to say I find it quite entertaining! We seem to have a lot in common...I am infatuated with dachshunds, for one!

I think you should do a blog entry about the family Bingo parties we used to have at Joyce's around Christmastime every year. Nothing says holiday spirit like people shoving gifts down their pants so they won't be taken away when someone in the next room has a Bingo! I used to play with you when we went to play Bingo...don't know if you remember me or not. I even have some pretty amusing pictures to prove it!

    Email me sometime: jane_and_sergio@yahoo.com

  2. Alissa! I couldn't forget you and I remember you from lots of other places aside from family bingo! We hung out at the Waverly picnic and rode the bumpy wagon [which I really should dig up photos of for the week of picnic!], we went to basketball tourneys and entertained each other while our relatives caught up and ate at the family potlucks.

I'll drop you an email later today!

  5. The bumpy wagon! How could I have forgotten that?! The second I read that I instantly remembered riding it with you. This past year I went to the picnic armed with my camera specifically to get a picture of the ancient thing. They don't run it as a ride any longer, but for some reason they park it in the middle of the square (for nostalga?) every year. I'll have to dig that up.

  7. I am a very very lucky girl to have my grandma's photo album covering 1939 to 1942. I'll do my best to post more photos when the theme fits! I love seeing the stylish dresses, trendy hats and the curly hair (remember these gals didn't have aquanet or powered curling irons!)

Thanks for all of your photo love!
