washi tape

I hadn't fully understood the appeal of washi tape until I bought some and started playing around with it. I started with two rolls and a small notebook which I decided to tack random bits of my trip in. I came home with about thirteen rolls, I think.

Long ago, my travel journals were stolen and I vowed never again to put paper to pen on a trip. I decided scribbles, tape and a 200 yen notebook didn't count. So I started sticking things down.

See my bad handwriting and crap sketches? That's me. In real life.

And yes, I know dimsum isn't Japanese, but we figure if locals eat there we could too... and the story about the backwards driving cab and the aborted takeoff on the plane. It's all true. So is the part about leaving my ATM card in Sydney, but I didn't write that part down.

My scratchings are rough and messy, but my new tape more than makes up for it.

Oh wow, you really did a fab job with your journal. I am going to Japan in March next year and am planning to keep a record of some sort. The washi tape is fantastic! The patterns and colours are gorgeous. And I am a sucker for grid squares...

Thanks for sharing your journal!
