I first discovered Happy Street when I discovered blogs and sewing. I was late-to-the-party and shelves had emptied. With a love of dachshunds, and my sudden discovery of linen and quirky Japan, an obsession was born.
I tirelessly hunted for the print. I searched swap boards. I posted on fabric finds. I trolled several dozen back alley shops in Japan with the hopes of finding a wee little piece. I begged people for a scrap or two. All to no avail.

...and then I came home from work last night and my Around the Block return envelope was a bit oversized. Among some truly amazing blocks, Sheridan has inserted not a small quantity but meterage of my dream. I couldn't even put into words how happy I was. You know that feeling when it's your wedding day? I felt like that... yes, over fabric.
You know that woman who I once offered to trade my whole craft room for a little bit of some fabric? I'm afraid she might actually want it. She's surely earned it.

And just when I thought my night couldn't get any better, I noticed the selvedge!Thank you Sheridan, you're a dream friend!
Do you have a fabric you've been hunting that eludes you? Maybe you've tried the Sewn Fabric Find and a couple of dozen swap boards with no success. Why not leave a little note and maybe someone here can help!
She is a generous one, that Sheridan. Lucky you Amy, I can see why you would want to trade your craft room for a piece....too bloody cute.
ReplyDeleteThe selvedge is icing on the cake! I love the thrill of the hunt - for a while I was looking for Beach Day from Heather Ross' Lightning Bugs & Other Mysteries. Now I'm on the prowl for Munki Munki Corn on the Cob...
ReplyDeleteThat selvedge is very cute!
ReplyDeleteBear - if you are into Lightning Bugs, keep your eye on Spoonflower. Heather Ross is releasing her old designs on there. I have heard that Lightning Bugs is coming soon.
You're welcome! I knew that you wanted it, but I had no idea how much! I'm just so glad I found it!
ReplyDeleteSo, did it live up to your dreams?
And as much as I would love your whole craft room, I just don't know where I'd fit it, so why don't you hang on to it for a bit longer?

Oh sorry, can you delete one of those?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, love it!!! I love dachshies too! In fact, I have a real one called Joey. She's getting a bit long in the tooth now, she'll be 14 this year. She's only got one eye(thanks to an accident many years ago), she's deaf, and she's going grey. She's still very sprightly tho! We call her Joey Lick-a-lot! :-)
ReplyDeleteSheridan definitely rocks, I can't wait to meet her in May at SIT.
I'm a hunting AJ pez, and thanks to winning a certain blog giveaway, I've got a little bit coming to live with me. YAY!!!! Thanks Amy. :-)
Wow! That is awesome. How lucky are you. :) What are you going to make with it?
ReplyDeletejust yummy fabrics!
ReplyDeleteTHAT is a friend, indeed. And a stealthy, secret-y one, too!
ReplyDeleteI can see why you love it - how cute are the little messages!
ReplyDeleteI think you better offer up your first born as well ... LOL she sure deserved your craft room.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to finally have your hands on something you've been hunting for such a long time. What a very generous and thoughtful friend.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet fabric!...I reckon Sheridan would win the grand prize in finding fabric. She is a star!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to find a couple of little pieces of the out of print Japanese fairytale fabrics like Snow White & Cinderella & Hansel and Gretel one day.
What a wonderful sneaky surprise! Sheridan really is so generous. My dream fabric right now is denyse schmidt flowers (not sure what it's called, the big ones) in gray. I'm having an orange and gray wedding, and I'm making a signature quilt for my guests to sign. It would be great to have a little bit, but I'm not paying 45 bucks for a fat quarter!
ReplyDeleteThat was so sweet!!
ReplyDeleteAw, that is too cool, and I'm not sure which side of the story is more awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy own story of woe is falling in love with FMF too late, and being unwilling to pay $45 US (or more!) for a FQ of seedlings--the gray, green and yellow ones are so gorgeous, and alas, I'm resigning myself to admiring them in the work of others.
What a nice friend!! Happy endings are always good!....now what to make with it, or will it just sit on the shelves to be admired!
ReplyDeletegorgeous! I've never seen that one before!!!!
ReplyDeletecorrie:)
The selvedge is just as cute as the fabric! What a lovely surprise for you :)
ReplyDeleteOMG I just found your post and that picture! I to am over the moon about dachshunds. We have two and they are my precious babies! I to would give my a lot for some of the selvedge, I wouldn't even have to have the fabric....
