There's only one thing that can beat 40C weather - Liberty tana lawn. I finally dove in to make a quick, easy halter top. No pattern, just brave cutting. Ignore the unco red and blue star ribbon. It's just a placeholder until the Superbowl. Go America - rah, rah, rah! Don't worry, I'll switch to pink bias after that and ditch the bow.
I've been hesitant to sew with Liberty for myself. I had awkward questions like "Do I deserve fabric this nice?" and "I need a really special pattern for Liberty, right?" I'm so happy that I put all of that aside. I opted for 70cm of the Umbel print in grey/pink/green. The whole process took less than a half hour. Super easy to make. French seams on the sides, a hem around the armholes (you could use bias here), a pocket for the straps and a blind hem at the bottom to finish it off. It's not going to win any blue medals at the showgrounds, but it's sure beat the Bondi heat.
That looks great to me! I now want to make one to beat the heat too! Alas, I'm a quite a novice when it comes to sewing (I'm learning, though!), so I'm not sure I can do this without a pattern. But I want one! Hmmmm...
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to whip something up like that, especially for this heat. I'm like you I've been wondering why my wardrobe doesn't have more sleeveless singlet tops! Perfect fabric too.
ReplyDeleteBeats the heat and looks beautiful too!
ReplyDeleteLooks better than a store bought one! Stay cool and enjoy the Superbowl!
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely - and of course you deserve Tana Lawn. It was great to meet you on Friday, and I love Calico and Ivy. What a great shop.
