The Beehive - Annabel's Submarine

Although I already made blocks for Annabel's Sea at Night quilt, we arrranged an extra side swap. She helped me with my spiderweb quilt and I promised to make her a submarine for her Sea at Night quilt.

At first it was to be a 12" submarine for the back, but that morphed into a 6" submarine for the front. Secretly and very quietly, I was really pleased with this because it meant that I didn't have to work with batiks (sorry Annabel!)

So as is my usual MO, I roughly drafted it in Word. I paper-pieced some bits and sort of went freeform on the others.

I decided these vintage buttons make the best portholes. I'm going to send them along unattached and she can add them on after she finished quilting. Annabel is going to surround this is more blue and join it with her other blocks.

  1. Stuff like this is why I don't bother trying to quilt/patchwork. I could never be this good!

  2. this might sound like a silly question but how do you draft a pattern in WORD? Do you just draw it on graph paper?
