the need to create

Because others were busy destroying things, I felt the need to create. Rather than futz with a complex design that I'd muddle along with for months, I pulled out a vivid palette and put them together chaotically. Half a day later, and I've got a quilt top. Though the prints give no inkling of the inspiration, I'm calling it Shambles of London.

I'm not entirely sold on my outer borders though, so I might revisit them later in the week. Do you ever get that intense urge to make? The kind where you have to do something right now?

  1. I get the urge sometimes too.

LOVE the outer borders...do not touch ;)

  2. I LOVE this! Would help to see a frontal shot but I think the borders are perfect the way they are...

  3. YES! I think all that energy gets pent up sometimes and POW - it just bursts out in a huge creative explosion. I've been known to stay up until the wee (and even not so wee) hours of the morning because the urge to create will not subside, even for sleep.

    This is lovely....

  4. If you feel the urge to make something you should do it. I like that there is no right way up with your quilt, and think the name is actually quite suitable.

  5. I absolutely know that feeling--sadly, it often strikes me while I'm at the office. Not surprisingly, I often sketch blocks or quilt layouts on my lunch break, if only to get the ideas down.

I love Shambles of London, and I actually totally see the inspiration for it in the quilt. Maybe it's just because I'm worried about my friends over there, but I see it.

  6. Urge to make? Definitely! To the detriment of other projects? Definitely :-/

  7. Oh I love this! And I definitely get that urge to create quite a bit. It usually hits when I'm super stressed and I need an outlet to creatively vent through my frustrations.

  9. I always get the urge to make things. The other half looks at me strangely sometimes as I pull out the sewing machine and start sewing as soon as something comes into my head, have many random projects on the go all the time :)
