just my type.
About once a year, I get an itch to make a new handbag. I'm not a girly-girl when it comes to these things. In truth I'd rather not carry one, but it seems that everything is proportional in clothing. Modern cell phones and wallets aren't designed to fit in 4'10" pants pockets. So some times I carry a small bag with my wallet, phone, keys, a roll of washi tape and my unmentionables. I travel light.
I use the same free pattern each time, because it meets for my needs. I use the same handles and magnetic clasp too. I've hoarded a stash of these supplies, but they never deplete. I really ought to destash some of it. The pattern is based on Jennifer Ladd's fat quarter handbag on Sew, Mama, Sew. The fabric is Melody Miller's Ruby Star Shining and Alexander Henry. If you've never made a handbag before, this is a really easy and versatile pattern. I'm sure you'll like it.

far out, that's one cute handbag. So love those Melody Miller typewriters, I'm waiting for mine to arrive. I'm one of those big-handbag types though (carry everything, but can therefore never find anything ... there's probably a lesson in there somewhere), but it has to be a messenger bag so I'm not fussing with it, I like to be hands-free. thanks for sharing the pic. cat.
ReplyDeleteI'll bite, what is:

Cute bag, Amy! And thanks to your title, I'll be singing the Beastie Boys ALL. DAY. LONG! :D
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love that fabric, and it looks fab as a bag! I stuff everything in my jacket pockets, I really think I need to grow out of that lol Don't have any washi tape in there though...
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for my melody miller typewriters to arrive too (like this colourway the best). What do you use the washi tape for?!
ReplyDeleteSo so cute! This is an awesome new handbag, for sure.
ReplyDeleteGoodness this bag is terrific. Love the contrasting fabric you used w the typewriters too!
