piece by piece

If only! by badskirt - amy
If only!, a photo by badskirt - amy on Flickr.

My name is Amy and it's been ten years since my last jigsaw puzzle. I used to be a bit of an addict and I've recently, as of yesterday, fallen off the wagon.

In fairness, there is no denying it's a gorgeous puzzle. When I first saw the box on flickr, I easily justified placing an order. This quilt comes from Malka (StitchInDye). It is a quilt from her book, Fresh Quilting: Fearless Color, Design, and Inspiration The puzzle was purchased at Interweave. It arrived yesterday, as did some girl scout cookies. Score!

Puzzling.
Some people have a knack for puzzles. I'm one of them. I'm lucky to be good at recognizing pattern, shape and color. I made this one up rather quickly, but I'm the kind of person who won't stop once she gets started on a puzzle. While the grey sections are daunting, there is enough variety of pattern in it that it would be fun for all ages. There were 759 pieces and it finishes around 19"x26".

  1. That is NEAT! I love it! I am the same way. I cannot leave a puzzle alone until it is done. Wish I quilted the same way!

  2. Ah, that is so cute! Malka's an Austinite like me, and I eyed some of her fabric in town at Stitch Lab yesterday! Such a cute quilt :-) and puzzle.

  3. My husband has that knack with puzzles too and while I, as an average puzzle person, admire you tremendously it drives me nuts when he wanders by and just casually pops a few pieces in the right places and then wanders off again. I wonder if he'd like a quilt one...I suspect he'd say there weren't enough pieces in it!

  4. Oh I eat my words - he says it would be hard with a repeating pattern and looked quite interested. But of course now he's talking about needing "room to spread out" and having dedicated puzzle tables etc. I shouldn't have mentioned it!

  6. I love puzzles and have a knack for them too. Good puzzle skills also make you a good pattern maker I've discovered. Must rely on the same strengths.

  7. Your posting made me laugh because I have a serious jigsaw problem as well. If I start, I must finish and don't get in my way! My ex used to call it "competetive jigsaw-ing" because I don't share well with others. Also, once I have done one I have to give it away because I remember where the pieces go and the fun is gone.
    Thanks for the laugh!!!
