I started yet another quilt top this weekend. I had a stack of Good Folks fabrics that I picked up for a song in February. Good Folks is one of those collections that has grown on me as I've seen it used more and more. I didn't love it at first, but now it's one of the few collections that I am happy to have a lot of and use together.
I was completely smitten last week with Tamiko's large triangle Mendocino quilt. Let's be honest, who wasn't smitten with it? I was so enamoured that I knew I wanted to make something similar with my Good Folks. I started cutting Saturday night and just kept chugging away at it.
Hello gorgeous. Hot off the presses on the darkest of nights at 6pm, I've got a pieced quilt top. It's really purty too, but deserves daylight for a proper color photo.
Thank you, Tamiko, for the inspiration! You completely rock. Also thank you to everyone who helped grow my Good Folks prints or offered to help me track down what I was missing. In the end, I realized that I was happy about enjoying the fabric that I had instead of fretting about the prints I didn't. It came up spades.
Do you do the same thing with fabric collections? Do you decide much later on that you love a collection well after it's left the shelves? Have you gotten lucky and scored some great fabric later on?
Your quilt is two of the things I love right now - triangles & Good Folks. I only started collecting Good Folks about 6mths ago after I'd seen a few GF quilts that I really loved. So yes, I don't buy fabrics straight away and when I decide I want them (after seeing them being used in projects) they can be hard to find.
ReplyDelete!!!! I have the exact thing in mind!!! I actually emailed Tamiko and said so. I couldn't decide whether to buy a template or not. What did you do for cutting? It's killing me not to see the color right now!! Can't wait to see it. How big did it end up?
ReplyDeleteYou'd better come back and show us some colour pictures... There is a lot of fabric that I crave that has long left the shelves, but most of it I loved the minute I laid eyes on it. Mendocino is one that I crave. I managed to pick up some HR FFA unicorns in double gauze at a closing down sale - that was pretty exciting.
ReplyDeleteOoh, tantalising sneak peek! Looks like a great way to use your precious though :o)
