Clothing fabric from Tokyo

One of my main goals of this Tokyo trip was to find some fabrics that I might actually want to make clothing from. There's a big difference between what I think I might like and what I actually do. This little pile was exceptionally inexpensive, but I think it's got a lot of potential!

I've also discovered that I quite like FEMALE pattern magazine. This is a seasonal Japanese pattern magazine apparently geared at teenage styles. I picked up the spring 2012 issue. The issues has around 20 patterns in it. If all goes well, I'll be sporting new tops and dresses in the next few weeks.

I'm starting with this quirky dress!

Do you struggle finding the right fabrics for clothes? I'm usually good at it when it comes to kids clothing, but I'm miserable at picking things for myself. I'm feeling pretty good about this stack though. Wish me luck!

  1. I definitely struggle with clothes fabrics. I am always attracted to bright, busy prints in fabric stores, but in reality most of my wardrobe is plain colours and stripes so I end up sewing clothes that I never would have bought in a shop. I'm trying to be aware of it though, and to pick more subdued prints and interesting textures. Your stack of fabrics look great.

  2. Are some of those stretch fabrics? I can't wait to see the dress.

  3. I love those fabrics and I especially love that first dress with the buttons down the front
