Who doesn't love a good storage solution?!
Yesterday, a blog reader asked me how I store blocks for my projects that are in progress. A few weeks ago, I stumbled onto a perfect solution in my cupboard which I've been using. My sample case is a little messy at the moment because half the blocks are sashed, but I think you get the idea:
Scrapbook paper storage boxes are designed to keep scrapbook paper nice and tidy. These are 12 1/2" x 12 1/2", so they fit most quilt blocks. They are designed to open completely up which makes them easy to get in and out of.
They come in a variety of depths. This one is 1" which is great for 20-25 blocks.
Imagine keeping a stack of these flat on your shelf keeping quilt blocks and rows tidy. Pull out the dymo and label away to keep track of them. It's a new system for me, but I'm happy so far. Tip: take a tape measure with you to the shops to make sure you get the 12 1/2" size.
How do you keep your blocks tidy?
The blocks shown are 8 1/2" Rocky Mountain Puzzle blocks made by the must.stash bee gals. Love.
That's such a cute way to store them! I generally have just one set of blocks storing, so I keep them in a particular drawer. Always a good feeling to pull them out!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! I'm going to have to give this a try. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I normally keep blocks in plastic storage containers, which works well for small blocks, but I had been struggling to find ones big enough to store large blocks. These seem like the type of think you'd buy at Spotlight - is that your experience?
ReplyDeleteI hang mine on coat hangers in my wardrobe - it's a gentle reminder everyday when I open my wardrobe that I must finish them.... one day!
ReplyDeletethis is a great idea amy!! I don't have too many blocks, but I'm sure they'd be awesome for all kind of other small projects. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. Mine are all over the place and picking up cat hair and other nasties.
ReplyDeleteLove this but what are these containers called and/or where did you find them. I have looked and looked and cannot find anything like them especially in that square size. Thanks!

I'm afraid that I don't remember where I bought them as it has been a few years now. It was either a big box craft store or a scrapbooking store. They are scrapbook paper holders.
Deletethis can be a good idea amy!! We do not have a lot of obstructs, however I'm certain they would end up being amazing for those type of additional little tasks.
