If you've been slightly under a rock, the latest rage is Amitie's Steam Punk pattern. Available from directly them in Australia. Also at brick-and-mortar and Etsy shops globally.
I first spied the Steam Punk quilt back in October on a trip to Melbourne before the pattern was ready. Good timing had me in the shop at the right moment to see it. I hadn't forgotten about it, but it lingered in my mind behind other projects. I love Jen's refreshed and truncated version of the classic Air-Ship Propeller block. You may have seen it before, but not quite like this. This design offers so much room to experiment with pattern, pairing and color.
Hold onto your hat, kids. I think the quilt world is going to burst out in an explosion of these blocks. Who's in?
Oh me, I'm in. I ordered the pattern from Amitie in Australia, got it a few weeks ago. It didn't take all that long to arrive, from Australia to the central USA.
ReplyDeleteClearly I have been under a rock! Absolutely love the simplicity of this and the fantastic fabric selection you've made. Alwasy good to hear of good bricks and mortar shops. Next time I'm in Melbourne I'm there!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern! I can hear the propeller turning in the air. I was looking around for a place in the US to get it. But, if I can't find it, then I guess I'll order it from Australia!
ReplyDeleteI love it. Bought the pattern when visiting Amitie a few weeks ago. However, I have machine pieced one block, which is very distorted and nowhere near as good as yours. I had decided that I would need to hand piece. What are your secrets for the near perfect machine piecing??
ReplyDeleteHi Shona - I used lots of Clover applique pins for machine sewing curves (the short ones with white tops) to hold the curves in place. I always have the inside circle (the smaller bit) on the bottom with the outside on top. I also like to fold my fabrics to find the center which makes it easier to align the centers.
DeleteWhen all else fails, I use a lot of spray starch.
Jeannette just started a flickr group for support for the pattern where we can ask questions and keep each other motivated. Maybe you'd like to join? http://www.flickr.com/groups/steampunkquilt/
Thank you, many more pins required then!! I will try machine piecing again, I know it will take me years if I hand piece!! I have a look at the flickr group, thank you.
DeleteLove this! Can't find it easily in the US. I hope they will ship from Australia. Thanks for helping me out from under the rock!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh ~ that's one amazing block!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! One more project to put on the list.
ReplyDeleteI just ordered the pattern yesterday! Glad to hear a flickr group started already.
ReplyDeleteOh and I bought it from Sue Spargo's Online store, if people are looking for a US seller.
