You know those days when your sewing along and feeling pretty hotshot. You're thinking to yourself, "Wow, how awesome is this, I've turned my third corner and it hasn't jammed once. I'm cool. Yeah, I'm really cool."
Then you look down and realize the top thread broke somewhere back on the first side - pretty much 30cm from where you started. That's how cool I am today.
Anyway, I've got these two wavy quilt tops that aren't quite straight. One's red, green and white. The other is green, brown and yellow with pinwheels. I thought of burning them after seeing all of those gorgeous quilts at Material Obsession. It was my only choice really. Compared to those ladies, I've got all the quilting skills of a first grader. [And the fact that I neither ironed them or laid them out straight for the photos certainly doesn't help]

So I made my quilt sandwich anyway. The only way to get past first grade is to keep at it. Then I went ahead with stitch near the ditch [this is an advanced technique that works best if you are giving the quilt to people with limited vision like babies, old people or your best friends.] I've gone around the "big" blocks of white and the group of four coloured blocks. Now I'm stumped how to finish the quilting. The blocks are too big to leave them unstitched. They are about 6.5" and I'm quilting with a bamboo cotton batting.
What should I do? Smaller squares inside the big squares? Try for bird shapes like my apron appliques? skip the quilting and go for ties? random, gobbly mess? Help!! Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I've been that cool too - funny.
ReplyDeletecute quilt! I love your bird quilting too.
