omiyage - creation (part 1)

So, I've still got those library books on my desk and realized I should do something with them before they need to be returned. I opened up Omiyage by Kumiko Sudo and studied it a little more closely. It turns out all of the patterns are for small pouches to hide little gifts. I decided to give this goldfish parcel a try:

Of course, I didn't have any fish-like fabric on hand, so I use a bit of blue off the bolt that I picked up at Spotlight. (If you like this fabric, let me know. I've got like 10m and I'm happy to swap bits for something a little more me! Otherwise, you'll see it again and again in tests!)

You can see it's a pouch!! I don't really do felt eyes (except eyelashes) so I opted for the less emotive button approach and skipped what looks like hours of embroidery. It wasn't in the directions anyway!

Glub. Glub. I'm probably headed to a lucky dip near you someday soon, if you don't mind the bad hem and mismatched thread.

And in my neverending quest to show that most blogs are shams and things are NEVER as easy as they seem. Here's Mr. Fish mid-construction. Yes, that's his tail horribly missewn on his face and completely crooked. Craig said I'm on to something with that failure.

More Omiyage another day!
