this is... my current reading stack

Our This Is theme this week comes from My Champagne Dreams. This is... my current reading material.

In a past life or just a few years ago, my reading stack would have been enormous and diverse. Next to Palahniuk, Sedaris and Eggers; you'd find the Harvard Business Review and diatribes by Malcolm Gladwell. I've always had a fondness for both Ayn Rand and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Haruki Murikami and Raymond Carver would mix with the latest business strategy and everyone was happy.

Nowadays, I'm reading less. I spend less time travelling. Book prices are growing and I find myself carrying handsewing on the bus instead of bound and profound words. So I'll just mention the books I opened last night.

I rarely wear makeup or if I do, it's only a tiny bit which you'd have to squint to see. Yet I own two books by one of the world's top makeup artists, Kevyn Aucoin. Kevyn was truly a makeup master, he could work wonders with a brush and nary a celebrity shyed away when asked to model for him. There are so many scattered throughout both Making Faces and Face Forward.

The books offer tips about how to achieve almost every style. There's are very own craft goddess, Martha Stewart, done up as Veronica Lake.

I pulled these books out because halloween is nearing. I was certain I knew my costume for the year, but am rethinking my choice. You can't go past Kevyn Aucoin for inspiration.

  2. These are excellent. I've just recently started getting into really interesting... almost costume make up. It's just so fun.

Also, I'm super jealous that you can still celebrate Halloween while in Aus. You can't really get away with it in Melbourne still.
