this is...favourite movies

Who doesn't love Hokey? And Hollie, the queen of Hokey gave us this week's this is topic. She's suggested we answer "this is...my favourite movie" and generously suggested we narrow it down to two or three. I like quite a few films, so it's hard to even pick three. Here's my answer today, tomorrow it will be different.

My favourite film for visual inspitation - La Cité des Enfants Perdus (City of Lost Children) by Jean-Pierre Jeunet who is also responsible for Amélie and Delicatessen. It's a mad quirky world full of delight wonder and strangely beings. I love Jeunet's colour palettes - bright on dark, bold and striking.

My favourite film you wouldn't expect me to watch - Mean Guns. I'm certain most of you are going, "Huh?" at this stage. Christopher Lambert, Ice-T, guns, great lighting and mambo music.

My favourite cult film - Jane Fonda with a gun. Need I say more? Barbarella.

My favourite film that everyone loves - The geek, the jock, the outcast, the rich pretty-girl snob, and the future criminal. The Breakfast Club.

  1. Oh, that's a really great list! I'd completely forgotten about City of Lost Children, I loved that! Thanks for the reminder. I remember loving her striped top against all that darkness.

The only one on your list that I haven't seen is the Mean Guns one. All the others I've seen and loved. :)

On the weekend I was chatting films/music/obscure tv shows with my good friend, Anna Laura (that's mostly all we talk about all day!) and she made me write city of lost children down in my diary so I wouldn't forget, I can't wait to see it!
