First, thank you to everyone who offered advice on snaps versus buttons in my puppet show tunic post. Much appreciated. I also want to thank everyone who suggested bloomer patterns to me, as well. I should have been a little more clear. The puppet show pattern came with a pattern for shorts. I've gotten a tunic, dress and shorts all in one package! I've just got to settle in and make the bottoms.
Of course, I found myself distracted....
The Oliver + S 2+2 Tunic with short sleeves in a size 2T made with Cosmo Cricket Early Bird cherries and lifesavers. This is another one where I should make the matching bottom. In this case, it comes with a pleated skirt.
Completely Off Topic Giveaway Stuff.
Last week's winner is CitricSugar in Saskatchewan, Canada. I can't even begin to count how many airmiles these ribbons have racked up on their way to you from Germany via Australia. Congrats! (I'll find you on Flickr or email you to get your details)
We're near the end of the Farbenmix ribbon giveaway. This time, I've got a 10 meter surprise pack for you, 2 each of five designs. As you can tell, I've been pretty immersed in Oliver+S patterns lately. I'm so keen for a sneak peak at the new lineup due later this year. One this is troubling me though! I've been wanting to make the Sketchbook shirt for boys. I'm a bit puzzled for a fabric choice, can you suggest one? Maybe something in the shop or something I should try to stock?
Leave a comment with a fabric suggestion and the random generator will draw about this time next week!
There's a lot in your shop that would be cute for a boy's shirt with that pattern. Early Bird-Ocean Hatches would be great and not too splashy. The Tiki brown would be a bit wild, but fun.
ReplyDeleteThe race cars from your shop would be fun! Thank you for your giveaway:)
ReplyDeleteYou have such gorgeous fabric in your shop - and some great prints for boys!
ReplyDeleteEarly Bird - Ocean Hatches could work. Or go all out and make one in Tiki Brown. But I'd have to say, my favourite suggestion would be Heather Ross Racing Cars on Track (although would have to be a very special occassion shirt if it was made in that!).
I think the Happy Camper Yellow Camp Plaid would be super cool!
ReplyDeleteI like the race cars by Heather Ross! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI really like the Early Bird - Sunny Hatches. Maybe it could be teamed up with some Subways and Giraffes fabric?
ReplyDeleteI think the Happy Camper - Yellow Camp Plaid would look funky!
ReplyDeleteI think the kei honeycomb in grey with Humpty or Driving trim on pocket and maybe even down one side adjacent to the buttons
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see that shirt in this fabric

Adorable!
Ginny :D
i choose happy camper yellow plaid, or you could go totally crazy and try rhapsody tile
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely shop, it would make it even better if there are some Kona cottons that go well with the cute fabrics you already have in stock!
ReplyDeleteI think that I would choose either Race Cars on Spots or Subways and Giraffes from the shop. They are way cute.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern Amy, think I'll have to grab one myself. That fabric is so fun too!
ReplyDeleteWow - that's a tough question! My search came up with multiple Joel Dewberry prints - Lodge Lattice in Sky (Deer Valley), Herringbone (Modern Meadow) and Honeycomb (Modern Meadow). Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI think I would like the Early Bird Sunny Hatches.
ReplyDeleteAmy, I asked O+s about whether the Puppet show pattern would be upsized (ecause I wanted larger shorts) and Todd said that there would be a shorts pattern in March.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait.
I don't think it matters, it is such a classic look. Maybe a lightweight off white linen with farbenmix ribbon (the blue one with the red stars) trim across the pocket...
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern! And I can't see it in your shop but I'd go for a Alexander Henry Crosshatch in bright or a Michael Miller Numero Piccoli in Cream or something from the Riley Blake Boo to You range... So many choices, I wish I had little boys to sew for...
ReplyDeleteI am all over the Japanese Subway, Giraffe and clouds. Although I think a little boy would like something with words written all over it too.
ReplyDeleteOh the Early Bird Ocean Hatches would look gorgeous made into the shirt with that pattern <3
ReplyDeleteOcean Hatches - Early Bird would be very nice for a boy shirt.
ReplyDeleteI would make the shirt in Early Bird Ocean Hatches!
ReplyDeleteHow old are your boys? I'm kinda feeling it in the MM Guitars or some Gina Fletcher Peace Signs. Totally retro for that 70's feel shirt.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I like the cars about town - but I am a total sucker for Kokka fabrics. Maybe the Ocean Hatches.
ReplyDeleteI would go with something from David Walker's Robots line.
ReplyDeleteI like the Japanese Subway fabric.
ReplyDeleteI like Early Bird - Ocean Hatches in your shop, but I have been a bit partial to Alexander Henry lately and I think this would be cute...

I would go with the early bird - Ocean hatches. It would look so cute in that little button up pattern.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Melissa, I think the early bird Ocean hatches would look amazing and its nice to be able to work from your own stash! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteIt is easy to buy classic boys shirts, but not so easy to get shirts with exciting designs - so I would go for something fun and colourful if I was making this - maybe some of the David Walker prints, or the Meguile *nuno print with adorable forest friends.
ReplyDeleteI totally want this in my size! In this fabric!
ReplyDeletehow about the early bird cross hatch in your shop? they are fabulous...but i also think a Kaffe Fasset print would be great for a little boy...maybe paperweight?
ReplyDeleteBecause I'm such an addict to plaid, I think you should make it out of Happy Camper -Yellow Camp Plaid fabric! I'm in love with that print!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could try blue Honeycomb from your store? It would look great!
ReplyDeleteI love kids clothing in yellow (if only my kids did) so I think it would look great in earlybird sunny hatches or the happy camper yellow camp plaid. I'd even consider a strip of greet the day in there somewhere
ReplyDeleteI like the Japanese subway, giraffes and clouds as my first choice, a close second would be Heather Ross's Race Cars.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with early bird hatches in either colour or the kei honeycomb - red or aqua!
ReplyDeleteA subtle polka dot. A plaid? or maybe something geometric?
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE the 2+2 blouse in the cherries and life savers! I have never seen those fabrics before and now I feel like I kind of need them to make this shirt for my daughter!
ReplyDeleteAs for a boy's shirt- I like the Ocean or Sunny hatches.
I love the Sketchbook Shirt pattern. I am currently making my third. I love japanese fabrics and I think that http://www.fabricworm.com/ecsp20nihena.html would look great
ReplyDeleteFor a cute little boy shirt: Early Bird Ocean Hatches fabric, or a race car fabric of any kind. Thanks for the ribbon giveaways.
ReplyDeleteThe 2+2 blouse is gorgeous! I think that there are a few fabrics in the Happy Campers range that would be fun made into the shirt one of the plaids with the little pictures would look totally retro & cute...there are a few patterns in city weekend that would work perfectly (not surprisingly)...the whole range is totally divine! but you are right...good boy fabrics are hard to find!
ReplyDeletethe shirt you made is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteand i think that the sketchbook shirt will look great in this simple but pretty fabric: "Sunny Yellow Cross Hatching from the Early Bird collection by Cosmo Cricket"
thanks!
No Names of particular fabric, but how about a nice crisp white or cream. I love just plain shirts for little boys but they are so hard to find. And for people who fear white, I prefer it,. much easier to soak white and remove a stain than soak a bright print and lose the print.
