I'm into diamonds. Not the bling bling kind that sparkle and weigh down your fingers. I'm into the pointy kind that your grandma may have used in quilts. The kind featured on your argyle socks. You wear argyle socks, right?
The obsession started while working on a pillow for the pillow swap. I wanted to try a modern lonestar design.
My instincts failed me and I went with a safer window pane design which I was happy with, but it wasn't the lonestar that I set out to make.
Then I bought some paper piecing diamonds in Japan, but that effort proved to be an unmitigated disaster. Twice. So bad that I won't show you pictures.
Unscathed, aside from a bruised ego, I'm at it again. This time using yet another technique and some of my Alexander Henry Farmdale. These were made in less than 24 hours, so I think I'm on to something.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with the result. I've got some issues with the grain running parallel to one side of the diamond instead of the center, but it's one of those things I can live it.
It's got a bit to go, but I need to decide on background fabric and borders before I charge ahead. D is for diamond. Aces all around!
Pretty! Are you going to share you magical technique? :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I'm dying to know what technique you're using!
ReplyDeleteThe lone star has been on my to-do list and I love the Farmdale fabrics for it! Very nicely done!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful! And yes, I wear argyle socks :)
ReplyDeletethats beautiful! i love it :)

ReplyDeletelush!
ReplyDeleteYour diamonds sparkle!
ReplyDeleteI have a diamond pattern that Accuquilt would be great for---OOOH now I really want one of these machines!!!:(
ReplyDeleteGorgeous job friend!! I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. What is the technique that finally worked for you? Do tell, cos I desperately want to make a Lonestar, too. The method I was all set to try has you build a unit by piecing long strips strips, then cut diamonds from it at 60 degree angles.
ReplyDeletebtw, your fabric choices are indeed, ace.
Oh please oh please post your technique. I JUST started an argyle-themed quilt using freezer paper diamonds. I used my Cricut cutter to make the diamonds and ironed on my fabric. My husband and I have been working on the logistics and while it works okay, it's not great. So I'd love to compare notes since I've never seen anyone else trying to work with diamonds in such a way. Thanks a million - your design is to die for!
ReplyDeletewhere did you get that cute rooster fabric. Maybe it's chickens, I'm not sure. I see it best in the bottom picture. I love that fabric.
ReplyDeleteAmy - these are all fabulous! You are one clever chic!
