block party.
A few days ago, I stumbled on XYZ blocks from Fred at Hart&Heim. Love at first sight. Instant connection in ways that hardly be explained. At the time, I was theoretically shopping for a housewarming gift for friends, and Craig was due to meet me in five minutes.
My head was racing. Play it cool, Amy. Act casual. No one will notice that you're head over heels in love with these blocks. I must have been clutching them a little too tightly. The sales clerk ask if she should hold them at the counter while I continued shopping. Absolutely not. I wasn't letting these blocks out of my hands for any reason.
So Craig came in. I explained that I needed these blocks. I justified things in irrational ways. "We have no kids. We won't have another chance to buy and play with blocks, if we don't get these today." and I convinced him that he needed a new lunchbox. If he got a new toy, then maybe I could get one too. I convinced him that an irrational purchase of a $45 dollar set of blocks was a bit like investing in art. He caved and offered to buy them, but I had to promise to wrap them up and put them under the tree.
I guess in a few weeks time, I'm going to have to do just that. In the meantime, I love my new blocks. I'm having fun with everyone's names (and I do mean everyone!) Today, it's me:

And our newest Blythe (she's due home tomorrow!)
I understand the love, they are fabulous!

Oh I wondered what her name was going to be!
ReplyDeleteI had a little chat to her as I wrapped her up for the trip home, and I felt a little awkward not knowing her name. Seemed very rude.
See you tomorrow!
Nevermind... You already did Amy.
ReplyDeleteJacob would still be nice.
