Circa 1934
In one of the craft circles that I run in, the word scrapbook is often said with such disdain that I think the speaker might have an aneurysm at the mere thought of it.
This perplexes me, because I adore scrapbook paper. I've begun stockpiling it because it's so darn handy. I use it for note cards for swaps. I use it as backing for price tags for markets. I decorate my Blythe rooms with it...
Let it be known cruel cruel ladies of the anti-scrapbook craft circle: I like scrapbook paper. The only joy I take in your disdain is knowing that you aren't going to clear the store before I get my hands on the latest prints.
Speaking of which... a little Circa 1934 has come into my hands. I ordered this online via Anna's Craft Cupboard. It's a great way to shop because the deliveries come in a pizza box. How grand is that?
In my pizza box this afternoon, I found several 12x12 double sided sheets of the Circa 1934 print. I took a gamble and ordered about 20 pages worth. I was hoping it would make for opulent floors, wallpaper and Blythe-y backgrounds. Yay! I was right!
I also ordered a sheet of the Elements prints. If you're new to Cosmo Cricket scrap papers, each line has it's own Elements page which is a collection of ready made note cards/gift tags and happy pictures.
I rounded out my purchase with my favourite Cosmo Cricket bundle, a Circa 1934 minideck. Minidecks are 6x6 pads of lightweight single sided card stock. They contain the same prints from the range but on a smaller scale. The pages in the minideck are single sided. I often tear out a page, cut it in half or thirds. Then I fold those in half and presto instant note card.
I'm really loving the scale of the prints in the Circa 1934 minideck. They will undoubtedly find their way into my Blythe rooms. Circa 1934 comes from Cosmo Cricket. They are the same designers responsible for the Early Bird and Tailor Made fabric lines among others.
I know a few of you will continue to turn your noses up at my paper, but for the rest don't let them turn you off. Step out from the depths of your scrapbook paper cupboard and smile. How can you not, with prints like these?
I buy my papers online from Anna's Craft Cupboard, in person at Fred the Needle and have received some as bonus surprises during fabric swaps. I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for a store in Sydney that stocks designers like Cosmo Cricket and October Afternoon.
How could anyone who loves fabric be snotty about paper that looks like fabric? Mystery.
ReplyDeleteI agree...but if it was ACTUALLY fabric then we'd be onto something ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I was a bit surprised that someone would turn his nose at scrapbooking paper...well, maybe it's because scrapbooking is fairly unknown in my neck of the woods and the only reaction I've encountered was friendly surprise (or complete indifference {my hubs}).
ReplyDeleteI love those gorgeous patterns and would buy them by the pound if not for the horrendous prices :)
You have to stop showing me new paper. I don't need any more collections!
ReplyDeleteUm, really, scrapbooking is awesome. I get to sit around with friends, chatting, eating and drinking while playing with pretty things. What's not to like?
ReplyDeleteWhen my daughter is grown she will have several albums lovingly made by hand. I wish my mother had taken the time, all my baby photos are in a shoe box somewhere...
I try to stay from the scrapbook aisle. It's addicting. You got some great ones.
ReplyDeleteI love scrapbook paper! I used some this season to sew some super cute paper garlands! Sometimes you can find fabrics and papers that are the same too. Love it!

Amy is talking about me. So, I own my dislike of scrapbooking - not for the cool and funky stuff you have shown but the overblown stuff that people who still think Chambray is cool do. The unnecessary layering of crap on a page - instead of thought out design. So please don't hate me. But hey quilting scared me until I saw the lovely fabric Amy sells. Susan
