New Zealand Butter

NEW ZEALAND BUTTER
Originally uploaded by old school paul

I'm told there's more to New Zealand than butter. Soon, I'll be making a short trip to the south island to celebrate my father-in-law's 70th birthday. I've visited the north island a few times, but this is my first trip to the south. The trip has been planned for me, but I'm hoping to find a bit of time for myself at special stores and must eat cafes.

If you've got any insider secrets for Queenstown and it's surrounds, Mt Cook or Lake Tekapo; do share! We'll be on the road from late next week for eight days. So if there are any markets or festivals in that time frame, I'd love those tips too.

  1. Wrong end of the island, but FWIW, Nelson.

  2. Christchurch has markets. I think they are midweek and on Saturdays, but you might need to check.

Have a nice time, I absolutely loved the south island. Oh, and take warm clothes, it can get quite chilly

  3. You must get to Wanaka, it is breathtaking. The drive from Wanka to Christchurch is also amazing, through Lindis Pass.

    Spectacular country.

  4. I was there last week - beautiful weather there is a little cafe right on the edge of the lake near the Novetel that had lovely tapas. Also the Tin Goose Cafe at Cromwell has lovely food. If you have time the Doubtful Sound overnight cruise is awesome. cheers Rebecca
