Down Under Doll Quilt Swap - Bobbles

I've nearly finished this weekend's project which was a mini quilt for the down under doll quilt swap. It's a bit more sedate than I usually work, but suitable for winter. I hope it is something my partner will like.

Each bobble is made up of four english paper pieced clamshells. I hadn't intended on this layout, but stumbled on to it by chance. I'm thinking a quick write up is in order, mostly to show off my new Sewline fabric glue pen.

The ruled fabric in the backgorund became an unintentional guide for the handquilting. Mr B insisted I should follow the lines instead of the curves of the bobbles. I'm greatful to him for that. I love the texture it introduced. It's worth noting that he helped pick the background fabric, as well. It might be slightly overquilted, which lead to a wee bit of loft in the Liberty bobbles. It's worth it though, as the wrinkles are a joy to rub your hands over.

So top secret partner, I do hope you like. It's been handpieced especially for you.

  1. This is really cool, Amy! I was struggling to figure out the piecing and finally made it out in the top left bobble. I think the quilting makes the entire top so interesting - I hope your partner gives it lots of love.

With us having our first truly warm, sunny spring day, your post reminded me that indeed, it's approaching winter somewhere!
