joining of squares.

Rocky Mountain Puzzle

Sometimes the whole is great than the sum of it's parts.  My received must.stash bee blocks, for example. These 25 blocks (well most of them) came from 7 wonderful girls around Australia using their utterly insane stashes. Each block was great by itself, but they are even more special together. I need to get this into better lighting so you can appreciate the nuance of color that shines in person.

Other times, the parts were better on their own. You learn that joining them cheapens them.  In hindsight, I chose the wrong border color for these blocks. I shouldn't have used a wishywashy ash. I should have used a dark charcoal that made the colors pop. Luckily the lesson was learned on a small project instead of a large blanket.

Not quite there.

I've been joining squares and circles this week; the patchwork kind and the crocheted kind. How about you?!

    1. Hi Jennifer. It's called "Rocky Mountain Puzzle". It was in my Patchwork 163 book from Japan, but is a traditional block. I'm not sure if it has another name. These are 8" finished blocks.

  2. I think your crochet circles looks great with that colour border. And the quilt is fantastic too!

  3. Wow, that stash quilt really is incredible. I'd absolutely love to see it in person! Now I wonder what you'll do with it from here. I could see building out with lots of crazy interesting borders, like Cauchy's George quilt...

  6. It's amazing when individual blocks that you're not sure about just come together greater than the sum of their parts. I feel your pain on the crochet squares though, I had the same thing happen with my first lot because I chose the wrong border colour - but I figure you learn so much from a mistake like that it's (almost) worth making!
