When it comes to taking vacation photos, Craig and I disagree on a few basic points. I'm a photo director. "Move left. A little more left. A little more.... ok, now right. now back again." I shift him into a place in the photo where he fits and I like the composition. This annoys the crap out of him, but I think the photos are better for it. Craig, on the other hand, is a casual snapper. He'll tell me to go pose for a photo and then take a picture of me adjusting my hat when I'm not even looking at the camera. I plead for a little more direction, and he shies away from mine.
Because I'm always a bit envious of those people who strike naturally quirky photos, I pled my case to do some silly photos while we visited The Pinnacles which are in the Nambung National Park near Cervantes in Western Australia. We've visited The Pinnacles before, but we were so captivated by the desert moonscape that we had to stop again. It's a lot of fun to weave your rental car down the twisty path formed by these jutting rocks in the national park.
The first playful photo shoot went ok. I told Craig to do something silly and he feigned kicking a rock. This is going well, I thought! At the next rock after a lot of positioning, I asked for a Han Solo in carbonite pose. All he could muster was Beam Me up Scotty.
Then it was my turn...
Craig took a photo of me adjusting my hat. His camera died shortly thereafter.
This is the third in a meandering series of short stories and pictorial posts about our recent trip to Western Australia's Coral Coast.
