A bit of summer reading might sound exceptionally strange to my Northern Hemisphere friends who are waiting for snowflakes to fall and hoping for a white Christmas; but summer is in full swing here in Australia and that means days at the beach slung back on a banana lounger listening to the waves and the rest of the family frolics in the water. Ok maybe your life isn't quite so glamorous, but hopefully you will find a little free time this summer season.
For a wee bit of entertainment, why not pick up Australian Patchwork and Stitching, Volume 16-2, which has a vacation theme including stories about the European fabric trail and an interview with my friend, Kim Andersson, about her Australian tide pool and ballet store influences of her new Tidal Lace collection due in shops in January. Along with notes about the collection, she offers a tip or two for budding fabric designers.

and I'm fortunate to share pages in the same issue with Kim with the Ahoy There! pouch project. I love the way Louise and the Patchwork&Stitching team styled my little boat pouch on a paper with paper boats. Could it get any sweeter? There's nine other travel-themed projects in the magazine to tickler your holiday fancy as well.
Volume 16, Issue 2 should be currently available in newsagents and shops or you can check in at the Facebook page to inquire about other ways to purchase it.
I assume by now, most Australians have their bags ready to hit the road. It will be a quiet summer for us. Craig will head out to the beach kiting and I'm going to nestle on the couch, hand quilting between naps. In February, assuming a swift recovery for me, as most people slink back home; we'll be headed out into the great Australian nothing.
What are you travel plans this summer? And for those of you in the snowy-blowy north, what do the holidays have in store for you?
Thinking about you. Enjoy the couch and let your body catch up.
