Pantone Color of the Year Quilting Challenge

Get on the Marsala Bus, Amy Gunson, 2015
The Pantone Color of the Year quilting challenge has been a feature of the quilting community on social media for a number of years now. It's always been an annual highlight for me seeing others interpret color with textiles.

Adrianne of On The Windy Side and Anne of Play Crafts are co-hosting the challenge this year and have lined up a number of sponsors who've donated stacks of gift certificates, fat quarter bundles and thread for the three prize categories - completed quilts, quilt tops and minis. There are also viewer's choice awards and lucky draw prizes for entering.

I eagerly await Pantone's color of the year announcement each year. Like many, I was skeptical when they picked Marsala. It isn't necessarily one of my favorite colors, nor one that I'm particularly enamored with; but that is what makes it great for a challenge. It's one of those colors that can take you by surprise. I think this year's challenge will be particularly exciting because it isn't a color used often in the online quilting community. I think we'll see fresh, unexpected ways of using Marsala in a variety of quilting styles.

In 2012, I was asked to help judge the Tangerine Tango challenge. I'm very excited to join the team of judges again in 2015. I hope many of you enter! Be brave and go for it. You might win a lucky prize draw just by entering.

While you're waiting for an idea to pop up, you can stop by Flickr to see entries from previous years:

  1. For a minute there I thought you'd already finished a quilt. Great design.
