I'll admit when Kim told me she was making a hair-themed collection, I was a bit bewildered. I'm not much of a hair girl. I rock a very short pixie that rarely gets dolled up. When I saw her designs though, I quickly changed my mind and fell head over heals for Bobby Pins and the swooped swirls of Just a Trim.
During the time that I should have been rushing to finish the pattern for the blog hop, I found myself distracted by the remaining Good Hair Day fabric in the caravan. It had prime position among the sewing supplies and had landed next to Kim's debut collection, Tidal Lace, which I also had the joy of designing a project for, the Ahoy There pouch.
The blue, blush and coral tones of Good Hair Day played perfectly with Tidal Lace. The prints complimented each other with enough variance in tone and hue to make for a visually interesting mix. So instead of writing the pattern due today, I busied myself making a string quilt using neutral grey center strings which lets Kim's fabric shine.
So that leads us to today when my pattern isn't ready, but it is my stop on The Good Hair Day blog tour.
As part of the blog hop, Windham Fabrics is generously giving away a 5" Good Hair Day charm pack at each stop. Entries are open to local or international readers. If you'd like a chance to win, simply leave a comment with ideas about what types of designs you'd like to see on fabric. Comments will be open until January 23, 2016 - 4pm South Australia time (One of the world's bizarre half-hour offset time zones. No kidding! Look it up, after you are done looking at fabric.)
The winner be selected random. Check back on January 24th when I post the winning name and Prom Night Pillow pattern.

happy crafting, amy badskirt.
Inspired by the designs packed with hair combs and hair dryers and the saturated-yet-sweet colors, my mind rushed to the big moment in life -- prom. To be clear, I didn't go to prom, but I've seen it romanticized enough on tv to make an immediate association. With that in mind, I designed a pillow set where elongated bowties pop against subtle background fabrics. The pillows made their debut at Quilt Market and I'll be launching the pattern next week when I announce our giveaway winner! (More on the giveaway below).
The two cushions I designed, Slow Dance and Midnight Kiss pair selected prints from the Good Hair Day collection. In one pillow I used a subtle white print as the background; in the other I paired the prints with a cross-dyed Artisan Cotton, also from Windham Fabrics.

Nice job Amy. I love your quilt. What a way to use up your scraps.
ReplyDeleteCute bowties and I like the dark magenta (if that's what you can call it) in the string quilt. It really brings life into it. I'd love to see more cats on fabric. I know, there are a lot of cat fabrics already. I also like to see math and science themes.
ReplyDeleteHello Amy! This fellow pixie cutter loves your good hair day fabrics! I'd love to see a range that celebrates travel and adventure. Working titles: wanderlust or road trip.
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to your posts. I love your creative projects and your photos always show them off so well. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteFun pillows! I'm looking forward to the pattern. Your string quilt is a great side trip. And I would like to see fabric with steam punk flavor or maybe mathematics. There are men in my life who would enjoy a quilt with either theme.

ReplyDeleteoopss. sorry didn't answer your question, I love fun prints like the bobby pins, another fun thing to put into fabric are the fairy tales.
DeleteThe pillows are adorable - love the pattern (and that couch, too!) I think I'd like to see more rock-star themed fabric lines! hey, maybe I should get to work on one. :)
ReplyDeleteI think that your pillows make great use of the fabric line-- great colors and little bits of visual interest without screaming "look at my hair cushion!" (that might be a tad disconcerting.)
ReplyDeleteI've been taking some time off from purchasing new fabric; it's nice to see what others have dreamed up with their designs. I'm often drawn to fabric lines with subtle patterns, but it's good to be struck by something completely unexpected.
How about a line with doors?
ReplyDeleteI've loved the blog hop. Thanks for your post.
ReplyDeleteAmy it's really nice to meet you, and I'd love to see more sea creatures and sea shells on fabric. Thank you.

I don't know if there already is some-but I think fabric with passages from famous books would be fun! (I am thinking some Jane Austen or Charlottle Bronte, etc.)
