I can fix that - almost...
Often times there's something really annoying in our house and we just live it for days, months, sometimes years. Case in point. We have no eating tables of any sorts. No dining table. No folding tables. Not even a coffee table. Strange, but not unusual to me. It works fine for us.
There's one problem that's been around for a while though. I like microwaves. I like reheating foods. Our bowls get very very hot when we do this. We do a delicate balancing act that involves juggling the bowls back and forth between our hands and scalding the tips of our fingers. Not the best, but it works.
Saturday, we bought new bowls. Sunday afternoon, I scalded my fingers. Sunday night, the lightbulb came on and I realized this was a problem that I could fix. Bowl Socks. Potholders that perfectly fit out bowls and save our fingers. I got started on the prototype last night to get the right shape. I'll make an inner layer and sew them together to help insulate the bowl. It's not quite finished, but I think it will work. I love when the little lightbulb comes on!
And this has become the new market project. It's the one I take with me to pass time between sales. The main block is from Jan Eaton's 200 Crochet Blocks and I've modified the edge with a basic granny so I could join them as I go.
Love the bowl socks! Great lightbulb moment. Such a clever and practical idea!
ReplyDeleteLove the colours in your market project too. Stunning
Necessity is the mother of invention... ingenious my dear!
ReplyDeleteHow on earth can you craft on the couch with no coffee table or side table?
gorgeous idea ... and fabolous colours. i love looking at your creations evolve.
ReplyDeleteIf you by some miracle get me in the Urban Swap...you can whip me up some of those most gorgeous bowl holders ;)
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea!
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever! Bowl Beanies! :)
ReplyDeletewhat a clever idea! I could definately use some of those for my bowls.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! And it looks so much more elegant than the tea towels I use for porting and holding just-microwaved meals. I once used an oven-mitt to hold the bowl while I ate.... :-)
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea! Now I want to go and crochet bowl holders for all my bowls! We have the same problem with bowls being too hot when they come out of the microwave!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Diane

Great idea!!
ReplyDeletemost clever potholder invention ever!! love it!
ReplyDeleteWe too rarely sit at the table. We usually have a teatowel on our knees to prevent bowl burn.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and practical idea. Now I wish I could crochet!
The bowl socks by them selves would look awesome too! I wonder if you couldn't glue them in place or something and make them into fruit bowls? :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! We have a table, but I am constantly burning myself transporting hot bowls from the kitchen to the table, so this would still come in handy for me!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and practical!
ReplyDeletegenius idea - bowl socks! lol.
ReplyDeleteRe your upcoming trip to Auckland, it was definitely worth taking the ferry to Devonport (takes 12 mins and is $10 for a return ticket!) - Cushla's Village Fabrics is right next door to a lovely yarn store called Wild & Wooly that sells lots of yummy premium NZ yarns; Touch etc (and she has a vintage pink sewing machine on display that I desperately wanted to steal, lol). We had a delicious brunch at Manuka cafe(the yummiest eggs benny I've had in a while) and I also found a fab stationary store down a litttle arcade off the main street (which all these places are on). There were also a couple of gorgeous 'nice things' shops and a great second hand book store to distract the DH. Hope you have a great time!
Love the bowl socks and the flower granny squares!
ReplyDeletefab idea! and I love the look of the new squares you're making!
