it takes a village

If you've been around here long enough, you may remember that a few months back I asked the gals in Around the Block to help build me a teeny-weeny village.  A few months later and the blocks have all nearly arrived. This morning, I've been toying with layout ideas in Word. I want to get it vaguely right before I cut or sew any of their wonderful blocks.

Right now, I'm into the idea of wacky crooked roads to create wonky little neighborhoods. The blocks are all terrific can be found my flickr galleries. I couldn't single out any to show here, because they were all spectacular... go look!  Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

For my own contribution, I've made a few very simple street signs, trees and skinny houses to scatter about here and there:

What do you think about the layout? Should I sort them another way?  Nix the roads? So many options!

  1. Wow! I love the concept and the layout. The idea of roads is fabulous and provides a great point of contrast. I think you should go with the design above. But whatever you decide I'm sure it will look amazing!

  4. As a professional traffic engineer I love a quilt with streets in it - however, I'm concerned about the safety of your cross-roads - perhaps some traffi signals or some roundabouts!!

I love it - it's going to be an amazing and very special quilt once it's finished!

  9. Oh that is going to look bloody fantastic Amy! I love the roads - it's very Sydney all wonky like. No town planning what-so-ever (just the way I like it!).

I love your little signs ;)

  17. I love the wonky roads! What color are you thinking? It could be fun to have them be a little lighter or colored in some way so that the houses don't get upstaged with the contrast.

I'm also trying to figure out a little neighborhood and I was thinking of loosely grouping them since some look more rural and some more suburban... I'm excited to see how yours comes together!
