For the first round of the Urban Swap, I was lucky enough to be given one of our hosts as a partner, Kerri of sewdeerlyloved. What an inspirational partner to get it!! My biggest problem was that I wanted to make so many things and use so many different fabrics that I couldn't decide where to run. I had such terrific ideas that would be perfect for her... If I had her in ten swaps, I don't think I would have run out of inspiration.
I had trolled through her favourites in flickr and came across a few red foxes, one in particular stood out. It was a sweet illustration of a boy dressed as a fox in the snow by Monica aka Mikimono. I knew right away that I wanted to cross stitch this image. So I dropped Monica a note to ask permission and crossed my fingers that she would say yes. And lucky for us, she did!! (Thank you very much, Monica! I love all of your illustrations and can now favourite them myself since my partner has her gift!) I debated framing the cross-stitch, but decided it might make a nice mini-cushion.
And speaking of frames...
...while I was making the looking boxes last month for the market, I had set one aside knowing it was for Kerri. In fact, she was my inspiration to finally make them. I'd be sitting on the idea for months without enough momentum. When I asked myself, "what would Kerri like in the frame?", I was able to finish! I this one just for her with a hopping rabbit and lots of forest mushies. Funny enough, as I posted photos of the other looking boxes she asked if I planned to sell them. I almost choked knowing there was one set aside for her already. =)
Of course, I added a few small red and aqua Japanese goodies for her from the trip too. Kerri, I hope you like your swap! Now, I'm waiting to find out what the postman will bring for me!
Just beautiful Amy. Kerri will be thrilled!

ReplyDeleteps. i had actually asked Monica if i could stitch up one of her illustrations a couple months ago and she was also so kind and gave me permission. i had never gotten around to starting though with having so many projects going. how you stitched him up is sooo much better than how i would have!! i get giddy looking at him every time!!
