I'm not one to hold back in my reviews of craft fairs and markets. Let me tell you that The Craft & Quilt Fair in Sydney, aka The Darling Harbour Show, is a grand day out. Fun, inspiring, shoppable and worth a trip or possibly two!!!
As a fabric seller, I'll admit that I'm more skeptical than most about what I'll find and at what prices. Let me say that I wasn't disappointed on Wednesday. First, I spent the better part of the morning running around with Sheridan and Belinda. And for once, I was the one most in control of my pocketbook. The phone call I got from my distributor ten minutes into the show had something to do with that!
Shopping with other girls who know and understand fabric is quite a treat. We can talk fabric lines. We can find inspiration. So so good. My favorite outing to a quilt and fabric show. Period. Aside from the company, the inspiration and shopping was worth the trip.
Above, you'll see some of the dearer prints that I picked up. Aunty Cookie, Lara Cameron and a Yuwa linen. The sort that you fondle and think that you'll never actually cut (I already have.)
And these gems came from a few tables I passed along the way. I was inspired tremendously by the quilt show to try bolder, busier prints. I tried to break away, but I am still in my little niche. The ones below range in price from $3-$7.50 a fat quarter. Reasonable for Australian fabric prices. Fantastic to get to see them in person and pair them up.

Australia isn't known for reasonable book prices, but this little gem I picked up for $17.95 looks like it will be worth it. 150 crochet borders with so many tips and photos not only to show you how to do it right, but also example photos of where you are likely to go wrong. Now when someone asks what I'm doing with my 200 crochet blocks, I can simply answer that I'm putting 150 borders on them. =)

And that was my day at the Craft Fair. I'm toying with the idea of heading back today, but I already have a full night of crafting at the Notebook Etsy Craft Party. Maybe I'll see you there?
You might have swayed my now. I was in two minds about going.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited that my new book has already made it to Australia, but I'm jealous that you got to see that lovely fabric. Wish I could go to the Craft Fair. I love fabric, but I don't quilt, so I don't have an excuse to buy lots of it.

Sounds like your Craft Fair was better than ours! PRoblem with living in Tassie is we dont get nothing most of the time. While quilters probably had a ball at our fair over the weekend, the knitters/embroiders/paper crafters etc were left with slim pickings.
