Years ago, I was quite active in the Brown Owls which is a worldwide crafting group started in Melbourne (Thanks Pip!) 2012 seems like a great time for me to leap back in. Their first event of the new year is a crafty excursion to Cockatoo Island tomorrow. Everyone welcome. No membership fees. No big commitment. Just hop on the 1:52 ferry and join us.
Every craft group has its niche. So I'll tell you a little about the Sydney Owls. They are young, but they can be older too. They are mostly girls, but also guys. They are single. They are engaged. They are married. They may or may not have kids. Really, it's a group for everyone. The owls do all kinds of different crafts. They crochet, they embroider, they knit, they quilt. Sometimes they've even been known to venture into macrame and string art. They don't care if you use the most expensive wool or the cheapest acrylic. They are non-judgmental about your crafting. They aren't afraid to try new things and help each other out. Mostly they like to get together and gab over a schooner of beer, a glass of wine or a cup of coffee.
I used the way-back-machine (aka flipcard view) to find a post about my very first Sydney Brown Owl meeting back in 2008 before we were a full-fledged chapter. I think the most important thing about Brown Owls for me is the tangible connections that I've made. We were a small group back then. I still see Cass out and about; and Jess and Bec will be leading the brown owl crew onboard the ferry. I hear their might be a pennant. I know it's late notice, but maybe I'll see you there? If you don't know anyone, just keep your eyes and ears peeled for the 4'10" girl with the American accent. Don't be shy. Hop over and say hello!

Oh how cool, looks like loads of fun, enjoy!
ReplyDeleteBummer I'm kid free tomorrow afternoon but I may have to go up to the central coast to pick my car up. If not I might come along
