flat cap, rad style.

I've never sewn a hat before, but I saw CurlyPops blog her Nicole Mallalieu flat cap made from a downloadable pattern. I immediately put it on my todo list. I was in Lincraft getting zippers and spied a strange polysuiting fabric and thought "yeah, that'll be my first test cap."

Carmel was talking about the cap today, so we both bought the pattern and started sewing - a mini sewalong. Only once I got going, there was no slowing me down...  I roared ahead.

I made the smallest size which is just marginally big on me. I've never worked from a Nicole Mallalieu pattern before but was quite impressed with 13 pages of instructions along with the pattern. It was very easy to follow, so I'll definitely look at more of her projects and patterns.

I spoiled myself and lined it with Liberty. Who wouldn't want something that soft against their head?!

Flat Cap lining.

I'm feeling pretty groovy. If I dial the way back machine, I wore a hat just like this when I was in the cast of Oliver. I played a bookseller child. I should see if I can dig up a cast photo.

This was the first time that I've attempted a hat and I'm really pleased with the results. I'm certain it's due to Nicole's well put together pattern and the awesomeness of my edgestitch foot. If you're looking for a last minute gift for a funky guy or hipster girl, this might be just the ticket!

    1. You can read about it in a blog post that I wrote up a few years ago. I find it extremely helpful. It makes me look like a pro! http://badskirt.blogspot.com.au/2010/07/edgestitch-foot-demystified.html
