I finished up the last row and borders of Bargain Basement Saturday morning. I took a photo of it spread out nicely on our bed. Craig saw me fiddling with it on my laptop. He told me my photo was awful and lacked wood. Honestly, that was his critique.
Your photo needs more wood.
Wanting to please him, I trotted outside this morning with my quilt in hand praying that a bird didn't crap on it. We've been there before.
If you'd like to try something like this, you'll find the tutorial for Bargain Basement on my tutorial page. It looks intimidating, but it is quite achievable. Look at this gem that Laura put together and her cushion which utilized the templates in a clever way.
And that pile of fabrics from a couple of days ago? It is already pieced together and I'm putting the borders on it now. 364 triangles went together in less than 24 hours.
When you're on a roll, keep right on rolling. And when it all fails, fix it with more wood?
That's amazing! I'm guessing a die cutter was involved? There's a lot more red/orange in the quilt than it looked in the pile. Do you imagine it how it ends up or are you surprised? I still don't picture it in my head how it turns out. Just need to do more perhaps?
ReplyDeleteYes, I used the die cutter for the HSTs. The greens and yellows shine now that the border is added. You can get an idea of what that looks like in this sneak peek. I'm nearly finished with that border. Just working out the cornerstones! http://www.flickr.com/photos/amygunson/8525494705/in/photostream
DeleteAmy I absolutely love both of these.
DeleteHey congrats on two quilt tops. I love your pink and orange-and-low volume HSTs. So simple and perfect! I love the border you chose to add to your Bargain Basement. (And I wish I'd thought of that!) I bet you are so relieved to have that beast done, it's a hard one! Thanks for the shout-out.
DeleteMore wood! Well, even though I do love wood in my photos, that first photo suits me just fine. Haha. But, it's good to have a place to document a husband's odd comments. Kind of like those funny things that kids do say....
DeleteBeautiful quilts Amy, it was wonderful to see them in the real today! :) Amazing.
DeleteI love what your 'pile of fabrics' has turned into! And Craig's assessment of your photo gives me a little chuckle down in the gutter of my mind :)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving all the warm citrus and magentas I've been seeing lately! Feels so crisp and fresh!
