The feather quilt is now quilted and finished. I went for a very subtle chevron quilting pattern with a strip pieced back. I finished it off with Suzuko Koseki grey grid as the binding. I'm really happy with how it all came together. I trimmed my feather blocks a bit before I assembled them and adjusted the layout slightly, so mine finishes around 60" x 68.5". I'd definitely recommend the free pattern. Many thanks to my local friends who knew I was collecting burnt orange and bright pink, and who came to the rescue when I was 10" of Kona Charcoal short. It all came together wonderfully.
Nearly eight years into a marriage, and I'm still learning things about the taller half of the partnership. His superpowers never cease to amaze me. Today, I was awed by his camouflage skills. Apparently I've married a chameleon. Somewhere beneath this reworked string quilt is Craig's legs:
This one has been finished for a while, but this is the first chance that I've gotten to take photos. If you've been following along, you might remember this project started many moons ago and always had a cloud over it. I finished a quilt, but never liked it. It was warped and wonky. I deconstructed it, and then reassembled it with handsewn mini sashing and a small border. It's so much the better for it. Instead of being shoved in the back of a cupboard. It now proudly rests on the shelf in the living room with other quilts. Except, of course, when Craig pulls it out to practice his magic skills and disappearing legs act.
Things do get done here. And I'm slowly making a dent in that UFO pile.
Love the disappearing legs- much teach my taller half that trick...
ReplyDeleteThe feathers are gorgeous - such rich colour choices and that dark grey background! Nice pairing.
ReplyDeleteAnd good call on the mini-sashing. It looks like pretty pretty tiling. The disappearing legs trick is too funny!
I'm so glad to see that you've found a creative pace that is working for you. Both quilts are gorgeous, but I'm especially happy to see the second one redone to your liking. It is beautiful. Your multi talented husband is pretty impressive, too :)
ReplyDeleteI love both projects!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love them both! And ha-ha, I love your term, "the taller half of our marriage"! Mind if I use - steal- it? (It really applies in my case, I'm 5' and my husband is 5'11".) And thanks for the free pattern link!
ReplyDeleteLMAO, I really did have to look for Craig's legs in that photo! Thanks for posting Amy; hope all's well:)
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts look amazing! My string quilt is also wonky and warped which I put down to the way I ripped the paper from the block. I may have to steal your idea of the mini sashing.
ReplyDeleteOh, both quilts are lovely! The charcoal background on the feathers is brilliant and love the thin sashing on the string ~ you always do such wonderful work!!!
ReplyDeleteThey are both awesome but I LOVE the feathered quilt. Great work friend!!
ReplyDeleteLove them both! I may have to try that feather pattern. I am glad you re-worked that other quilt. It looks great, totally worth the effort so that it can come out and be seen.
ReplyDeleteI really love your interpretation of the feather quilt - with that dark charcoal background the feathers just look like they are glowing. It almost reminds me of embers or something like that. Also I think that mustardy gold print you used on the back is one of my favourites ever.
ReplyDeleteGreat internet site! I truly love how it really is basic on my eyes as well as the info are properly published. Im thinking how I may be notified whenever a brand new submit continues to be made. I have subscribed to your feed which ought to do the trick! Have a great day!
