Sometimes, I name the critters.
Sometimes, he helps.
When he choose Ducky,
I naturally chose Gibbs.
Don't worry, I'm not going to post every animal I make between now and the August market. But I will use these guys as an excuse to answer some commonly asked questions about the Moxie the Doxy Pattern.
Is it hard to sew your dachshund pattern? The machine sewing aspect of Moxie pattern is quite straight forward. There are no awkward gussets and no seam allowances to worry about. It's very straight forward machine sewing which basically involves following a slightly curvy line. I won't lie, the hand sewing aspect is a bit tedious, but not challenging. I tried to craft the instructions in a way that someone very new to softies could easily create a pooch.
Can I sell animals made from your patterns? I am happy to support other home sewists. I actually started selling from someone else's pattern (with permission, of course.) Yes! You can sell items made from the Moxie pattern, but please make sure you acknowlege Badskirt as the pattern designer. If you are selling at a market, this should be on a hangtag of some sort or signage. If you are selling online, this should be written in the item description.
Can I sell at the same markets that you sell at? And if I do, do you mind if my prices are lower than yours? As my product list has grown, I've found that I can't always keep up with the demand for my toys. So yes, of course, you are free to sell at the same market as I do. And as for pricing, this is really up to you. I've found with the time and effort that goes into hand-making doxies that I really can't lower my prices and make a sustainable living. You may know a secret that I don't though and pricing is up to you.
Can I buy a copy of your PDF and then resell it? No. Patterns created by Badskirt are not to be copied, reproduced, distributed or sold. Doing so is an infringement on intellectual property. We frown on that very heavily.
Can you put my shop on your blog since I am selling dogs from your designs? Unfortunately, no. I will periodically feature some critters made from my patterns on my blog with the permission of the creator, but this is the exception rather than the norm. You can, however, always show off things made from Badskirt patterns or fabric in the flickr group and leave a discussion post there that you are stocking them!
Is this a pattern that I'll buy and make once, never to touch again? I don't think so. With so many wonderful fabric ranges that are released, I'm constantly inspired to go back and make more doxies. I hope you are too.
Will you be releasing other patterns? I would definitely like to get my kiwi pattern up and ready for sale this year. At this time, I'm not planning on writing a hippo pattern. This may change some day.
Any other questions? Just pop them through!
Fun - my sister-in-law has 4 beagles..this looks like a perfect pattern to make her a softie!
ReplyDeleteCute names. I want to see what an Abbey doxie looks like.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a puppy pattern too. (I am envisioning a litter!)
ReplyDeleteAmy, they are so beautifully sewn by you, I just can't imagine anyone doing them justice! Not that I don't want you to sell your patterns!! I just love the one I sent to my friend's little boy (they loved it too) - it was quite marvelous to behold - and immaculately made with beautiful fabrics. Thanks again!! PS This is my favourite soft toy that you make - especially loved the ones you did with the Paris fabric.
ReplyDeleteDucky and Gibbs!! *sigh* I do love that Jethro!
