the playdate

Last night, I set to work on Oliver+S's playdate dress. I hadn't initially ordered this pattern for the shop, but I was overwhelmed with inspiration on flickr.

When I realized it was no longer available from O+S, I called my distributor and had a batch sent over. This one is a size 6-12months. The patterns range from 6mo-3T and 4-8. At three scissors, I'll confess this is the trickiest of the Oliver+S patterns that I've constructed.

It took just over 5 hours, partially due to me deciding at the last minute to remove the entire yoke and add in the optional flat-fold bias. I also lost a bit of time to fabric paralysis last night. I had to use my phone-a-friend option and get a second opinion on yoke fabrics and ruffles. (Thanks Sheridan!)

This is another one of those versatile patterns where changing a few details changes the entire dress. The flat fold bias around the yoke is optional. There are also ruffles available. My favorite part are the pockets hidden in the seam. Perfect for little tissues and treasures.

This dress is no longer available from Oliver+S, so you'll want to snap up a pattern before they all disappear. They come in size 6m-3T and 4-8.

Curious what I wore as a kid? I've put just a handful of my childhood photos on flickr. Round collars, contrasting yokes and puffy sleeves; the same classic characteristics found on the dresses I'm making.
