For a while, I became a tad obsessed with flickr swaps. I was joining every swap I could find so I could collect all sorts of goodies for my house. The most recent was the Scrappy Pincushion Swap which is still ongoing.
My pincushion from Tanya arrived last week and I just love it. I'm calling it Oggie Ogre. With the gorgeous stitching, I know Tanya didn't intend for a little man to appear but the fabric placement just perfectly makes eyes, a mouth and the stitching is the perfect tuft of hair or hat plume. Perhaps it's a sign that I don't get out enough that I've personified my pincushion and pretend it keeps me company.
For my partner (still a secret), I started down a different path and nearly finished. Then I saw what they had made for their partner and it was just too darn similar in one of those scary sorts of ways. I'm going to send them it as a second cushion though, because I think they'll smile about it.
So I went back to the drawing board and decided to try something that I'd been thinking about for a bit. I made a wee version of my hippo pattern. It meant fiddling a bit with seam allowances and joins, but do my surprise, it turned out pretty good. Meet Martha Mirabelle Washington. She's travelling to parts unknown.
Don't worry, the pins don't hurt her. She's got a bit of a bad back and it's a bit like accupuncture!
Today, I had the strangest realization. I don't have a single bee or swap to work on right now. I'm still waiting for a few things to arrive, but everything that needed to go out the door has. It's a bit perplexing. I'm not sure what's next but I think it might be another dress!
--------------------------
For those waiting patiently, the ice cream dress and puppet show tunic are back in stock. I've also added the playdate dress which has been discontinued. Get it while you can!
Oh I love Martha! I'm sure your swap partner will love her too. :)
