what becomes of bee blocks

I have shown you quite a few bee blocks that I've worked on, but not a lot of finished quilt tops. The reason is that like me, others procrastinate when it comes to making things for themselves. But after seeing Andi's blocks put together today, I realized it would be nice to share some photos.

Andi (of Patch Andi) sent us an array of fabric and requested string blocks with a solid green center. I think Andi used the exclusionary principle of fabric selection. It's not the colours you pick, but the colours you don't. In this case, she left out yellow and blue. We each then made 5 or 6 small blocks for her.

And faster than a speeding bullet, she made this quilt top! I'm gobsmacked by how it came together. I'm lucky to have played a bit part in it!

And not to be outdone by Andi, I knew I had to get my Beehive quilt top together as well I went for a more haphazard piecing approach for me. I had requested pluses, minuses and equals scattered randomly through out blocks for my All Things Equal quilt. As usual, I uttered the mantra that less is sometimes more.

Then I chose the absolute greyest day in Bondi to hang it on our ghetto clothesline to take a picture. Twelve girls, along with myself, had a hand in creating this quilt top. We're going to use it as a picnic blanket once I get it all quilted up. Some of the seams still need a bit of a tidy as you can see through the fabric in the sun, but it's so darn wonderful.

That's just a sampler of what my bee blocks have become. I had fun creating them, but they are now a part of something pretty darn special.

Every time we use them, we will be reminded of the friendships made, the shared love of all things quilty, the experience of it all.
