one more bee block

This block signals the end of the first year of The Beehive for me. The fabric arrived yesterday and it took all of a half-hour for me to drop everything and dive straight in. This block is for Karlyn. She's waited patiently for over a year for her turn, so I wanted to finish them quickly. Because the fabrics were just so maddeningly happy, I couldn't help myself.

Karlyn wanted crazy spiral patchwork strips surrounding a cheery picture. When a package of Heather Ross, Denyse Schmidt, Lecien and Heather Bailey arrives at the door; you are obligated to drop everything and make your bee blocks. I added some Japanese elephants and a gnome (via Belinda) into the mix. There's a second block but it didn't quite make it to square, so I've sent it home to Karlyn to finish.

I've always liked the crazy patchwork. I've had one as a longtime flickr favourites from UniĆ£o de Retalhos por Adriana Nalin. Such a great use for small scraps and it would work well for quilt as you go too!

I really enjoyed making this block for Karlyn. I can't wait to see what the other clever girls come up with.
