cut. fold. repeat?
This week has been full of cut. fold. repeat.
I've known this day was coming for about a month or two now, but it hasn't made news any easier to post. With Mathilda's Market now just days away, it's time to mention that this be the last market where you'll see Badskirt as a textile retailer. By the close of 2010, if not sooner, the Badskirt brand will be exiting the fabric business. (*I was taught to never say never. In time, I may reconverge on this path. For the foreseeable future, it's a solid decision.)
Though it's been wonderful running a boutique fabric business, it's been hair-raising and a challenge at times. A strong Aussie dollar and the increased availability of Japanese textiles from major fabric shops are the primary reasons for this decision. Both are very good things! Don't get me wrong. They are terrific wonderful things.
I won't be giving up on fabric collecting and trend-watching. I'll still be posting wonderful new finds in local shops. I'll still be on the road and in planes some times, looking at textiles along the way. I'll still be active in the fabric forums on flickr and I'll have a lot more time to read your blogs. It's a really good decision and I'm quite happy about it.
As a side benefit, all of my patchwork fabrics will be discounted at Mathilda's. Nearly everything in the shop is already $20/meter. I'll be adding some bonus buys in to reduce that even further up to 25-35% off RRP this Sunday.
And what's next, you ask? It's a wonderful question. I don't know, but I'm very excited to see where the path takes me! Please stay along for the ride?
Congrats on your decision - sounds like you have come to terms with it - if not quite happy about it (yet). Little bit sad as i only just found your lovely fabric goods- but i will be sure to stop by on Sunday at Matilda's to say hello and goodbye!
