joy and melancholy

I've been unusually quiet this week. Not because I've been busy, but because I've been emotionally conflicted. I feel dreadful celebrating my new job when others are suffering. I'm having a hard time prattling on about fabric and wool when I see the home I used to live in engulfed in 4 feet of water. I haven't found a voice that reconciles my joy and my melancholy. I hope to find it soon.

For now, pictures.

  1. Hi Amy I completely *get* where you're at. I've really limped through this week. It's a bit like compassion overload with your brain unable to absorb the enormity of what's happened. And then a weird feeling, almost a bit like survivor guilt. Except I wasn't there. Very strange.

What gorgeous photos, though - you must treasure working in such a lovely place. Here's to a better week. J x

  2. I think we are all just feeling so sorry for the other Australians affected by this and a bit shell shocked that it was able to happen so quickly and with such destruction, probably the same as we all felt about the Victorian bushfires. I'm glad you have a new job that is exciting you, in times of bad we need good things to uplift us all.

  3. I feel a bit the same - everything seems quite trivial in the scheme of what's happening in other parts of Australia. A good reality check, indeed. Nic x

  4. I understand the guilt. I moved away from the south, then watched as so many of my friends and family lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina. I have no magical words, but just wanted to send some {{{cyberhugs}}}.

  5. I think you are not alone. Material things seem so trite when faced with loss of life. At least your pictures are cheerful. Cherrie

  7. Nodding along here Amy. I have photo's of our QLD trip to share but it just doesn't seem right posting them. I hope the colour in your new job cheers you up.
