I'm not sure at 37 if a giraffe dress is appropriate. And there's an unnecessary irony when it's coupled with the fact that I'm only 4'10"... but I decided this had to be made. I used the Sevenberry giraffes fabric and the Theresa dress pattern from Burda Style. The pattern is written for 140cm wide fabric, so I added a couple of extra seams in the skirt to make it work.
In true blogging style, I'm showing a half finished project. It still needs hemmed and slightly adjusted at the waist. Between you and I, I didn't bother with proper undergarments for the photos either or, well, any at all. I think a couple of vintage buttons on the neckline as a detail might work. Regardless, I'm happy to be out of my failed clothing funk and back into making something playful and happy. I doubt it would suit most thirty-seven year olds, but it's definitely me.

I am dying with envy that I didn't make that dress first. I would have made my standard shirtwaist dress from it. Can't wait to see your finished project!

Bravo! That's a great print. Whatever age you are is the perfect age to wear something you love and that makes you happy. There are some minor restrictions of course; most of which involve sagging lumps of skin and not enough cloth to cover them with. At 62, I have become an expert in such matters.

ReplyDeleteHi,Just saw the rest of pics on flickr - its a great dress- a classic! 37 is the perfect age for such dress and if my waist ever returns.....sigh.....at 44 1/2 (thats my age and not my waist) I'd wear one and love wearing it.
