Taking Liberty with Roundabouts

I am quite lucky to have many good quilting friends around the world, but today I want to mention Cathy who lives right here in my hometown of Melbourne. She's the secretary of our Modern Quilt Guild, a mum to two lovely girls and some sort of nuclear physicist specializing in fighting cancer.

That already reads quite like an impressive resume, but what really makes her top notch is that she's a Badskirt pattern tester. Clearly among all her accolades and accomplishments, testing my pattern is her highest achievement...

...okay, maybe not.  But you have to admit her work is impressive!  Taking Liberty with Roundabouts is her trial run with my Roundabouts pattern. Being both human and fallible, I was mortified when she told me that she cut into her special Liberty tana lawn stash for testing. Who does that?

She was spot on though. The scale of the Liberty prints and her choice of reds, pinks and purples were a perfect combination for this design. She's combined her Liberty with a grey and white shot cotton which adds visual texture when viewed in person. She decided to quilt with a 1" diagonal grid and then color-bombed the binding with two tiny pops of color. Top work! Top work indeed!

I want to say a huge thanks to Cathy for helping me out and letting me share her photos with you, and I encourage you to pop over to visit her on Instagram at @cathtakespoland to shower her with praise for her Taking Liberty with Roundabouts quilt, the punny name alone deserves kudos.  If you'd like to make a similar quilt, the Roundabouts pattern is on Craftsy.

And if you'd like to be showered with praise, I'm in need of a few more pattern testers including some for blocks that are ready to go this week!  Drop me a line at badskirt@gmail.com and let me know if you are interested and I'll add you to the Badskirt pattern testing mailing list.

Happy crafting!
make good stuff.

  1. This is a beautiful pattern and Cathy has certainly done it justice. What a nice line of fabric, and the gray sets it off so nicely. I look forward to trying this pattern out myself!

  2. What a lovely finish! I have a bag of cool tone liberty scraps that could be really fun for a quilt like this.

I'd love to test for you when I had the time too.
