Best intentions don't always work out as planned. I couldn't find a good piece of wood. I went to Bunnings to find some. I was in a giant hardware store and left with no wood. Not wanting to be deterred, I grabbed a cork hotplate from the kitchen. I got out grandma's trusty hammer - the one that should be in a design museum as the handle breaks down into infintestimal bits where screwdrivers of all sizes are tucked away.
The hammer deserves a blog post of it's own. But no, it's lumped in with my first string art failure...
The directions said start with an easy design. Start with a circle. I chose a rather toadstool shaped circle to start.
Then it mentioned something about the number of possibilities of stringing yarn. It listed all sort of techniques - hollow circles, wing weave, varigation. It was all too much to read. I trodded onward and cast the book aside.
An hour and a half later and I've got an unusual stem and the roughings of a mushroom cap. Should it really take this long? Have I gone horribly astray? A bit of shopping and 180 nails later, I'm thinking string art might not be for me...
Don't give up just yet. It certainly looks like a mushie to me!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great. Definitely looks like a mushroom. I think a bit of black spray paint on the board and the nails would work a treat.
ReplyDeleteoooh, could you put little white spots in the middle of the red? you'd need nails in the middle though but that's ok I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteOMG that brings back memories of my teenage years & that mushroom!!! We owned that book and my Dad made me that very mushroom for me to perform my 'string art talents' on. I did so well he even made me some music notes - not sure if they were in the book. Such fond memories :-)
