Another new stop for me in Tokyo was the Oedo Antique Market held at the Tokyo International Forum near Ginza. The open air market has about one hundred stalls of delightful antique goodness with a definitive American-esque slant to it likely rooted in America's occupation of Japan.
Before you ask - no, this isn't the gocco mecca alluded to early. It is, though, a pure delight to wander through though. If it weren't so brisk on the day (maybe 9C), I might have made a full day of it. I kept my purchases tame only picking up a few vintage typewriter keys which seem to have wandered in my travels.
It's held twice a month on Sundays. This is another stop, I would recommend to Tokyo travellers. As my photo heavy post implies, its quite good for gazing. The stallholders are quite eclectic in their display methods. Some simply put down a blanket and others painstakingly arrange each item as if it's ikebana.
Vintage shoe forms, wooden spools and more were tempting as were antique sewing cards.
and who could resist the little red truck filled with stamps? This stand specialized in antique office supplies... primarily pencil sharpeners. who knew there were so many? And that there was a market for it?
I was impressed that someone took the time to sew so many buttons on bamboo.
Beautiful photos!
