Osaka Vintage Toy Exhibit
Some times on holidays, it's better not to plan. Some times it is better to just wait, wander and stumble onto a gem. My diamond in the rough in Osaka was hiding in the Museum of History. A special exhibition on vintage toys. A massive collection of antique playtime heaven.
No pictures in the exhibit were allowed and that truly is a shame. It started with tin whistles and tops. It took me past classic games and classic cars. Toy robots and toy coasters. Big Boy, the Pentel Kids and hundreds of other mascots. Godzilla and more Godzilla. Space guns. Space copters. More. More. More.
I wandered. I smiled. Then I brought home some modern day reproductions to remember my trip. I doubt they are Japanese, but they will always remind of a random day in Osaka when I saw a poster with Astroboy and the word Museum.
Fantastic! They look so very cool. I agree, we stumbled across so many things when we were travelling and other travelers pointed out places we hadn't heard of. Yours was surely a great find! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree the serendipitous discoveries when travelling can often be the best. I spent a week in Geneva a few years ago and had a great time wandering around the city and happening on things. One of the things I found was one of the oldest houses in the city which is now a museum, including a collection of antique toys - it was fascinating although again such a pity that they wouldn't allow photos.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside that robot is soooo cute!!! I have a similar reproduction one that I bought at 'Just White' in the QBV a few years ago, I love it and it attracts many comments.
