more teals and sour yellow.

Two more blocks today for my random sampler. All of these blocks are different sizes. I haven't worked out how I'm going to assemble them yet.

The first block is called a Jackaroo star. It's made from a Meredith Clarke template set. I have to confess that I have an abnormal fascination with these dayglo yellow template sets. I've had this one for ages unused. It makes a clever diamond and cross pattern. If you squint, you can imagine how the pattern would tile and result in tiny little white crosses in the corner too. It makes me wonder if I should make more of these blocks to see the repeat. It had some awkward seams angles though, so I'm on the fence.

As far as template sets go, this is a great one. It's got all the appropriate notches and cuts so the pieces line up without having to mark them up. Thumbs up from me on that front.

For the second block, I made a variation of the Nancy Cabot x and + block.  I wish I had added more yellow into this one, maybe swapped the center yellow with the dark circles. I might make another one to see how that layout works. If you like this block, you might like to join the Scrap Attack quilt along at Stitched in Color. Rachel featured the block pattern today and will have a "gutsy" interview with me tomorrow. Though she might have meant gusty, as in full of hot air. My opinion on  keeping scraps has evolved over time, and it should make for a good read.

  1. I love the Jackaroo star. The yellow is lovely, do I recall a dress in that fabric? Can't wait to read your scrap attack feature tomorrow, I have been having a lot of fun with my scraps as a result of that group.

  3. Beautiful block - I love it. Inset seams terrify me.

  4. The jackaroo is great. You could always take a picture head-on and tile that on your computer to see the intersections...

  7. The blocks come out really interesting between the fabric and the templetes. The 2 nd block I like the yellow center. The fabrics you are using make it "pop" as my husband says.
