I would make a little leaf template, seam allowance cut off, and then tack the leaf on to it paper piecing style and lightly press it. Then you can appliqué it on. I expect this is not what proper appliqué people do though!! Your flower looks lovely!! Oh and the quilt underneath is so pretty!!
when you get to the corner, pull your thread tightly straight up, then i always completely turn my project upside down and do the needle turn- it works great
And get some Roxanne's appliqué glue- a couple of tiny dots means you won't need pins. I started using it a few days ago on a mammoth appliqué project and it is fabulous!
Karen Kay Buckley teaches this technique where you cut out your leaf template using Templar, cut your fabric bigger than the template and then use starch on a paintbrush to iron the edges under before stitching it down. Comes out with perfect leaf points! It's like magic.

ReplyDeleteGreat pattern, I draw a line with a silver pen, 1/8" seam and needleturn...works for me!

ReplyDeleteI find finger pressing the leaf first before I stitch makes a real difference because then I already have the point of the leaf well pointy :)
